Cold Metal Spray looked into the feasibility of CMS as a process in the aerospace industry for maintenance of aircraft. To do this Cold Metal Spray entered into a R&D project with a major aircraft manufacturer. During this project optimisation trials were carried out to find the best settings and conditions for different materials gaining a known baseline. CMS used their in-house lab facilities to do this. After this coupons were completed to a highly controlled standard and sent to a lab to be analysed for stress, adhesion and corrosion. With good results leading to further and ongoing work.
